WHAT IS COME TEACH WITH ME?

It has been demonstrated time and again that the quickest and most effective way to develop any new skill is on-the-job training.  This works especially well in the training of teachers.  The Come Teach with Me program has been created to facilitate this sort of training within today’s churches.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
The way it works is simple.   A trainer (an experienced teacher) recruits a trainee (a prospective future teacher) to co-teach an actual Sunday school class.  They will meet during the week to plan the lessons together, during which time the trainee will develop strong lesson-construction skills.  On Sunday, as they each teach a portion of the lesson, the trainee will develop effective lesson-delivery skills.  The trainee learns by doing - by receiving instruction, observing the trainer’s example, carrying out specific assignments, and then receiving the trainer’s feedback.  Before long, the trainee can blossom into a skilled and fruitful teacher.

THE TRAINING PROCEDURES
The training procedures are presented in the book, "Come Teach with Me," written by Eric Williams.  It contains a study of the biblical principles of teaching and presents many teaching methods and techniques that a trainer could impart to a trainee.  It also contains detailed procedures that can walk the trainer week by week, task by task, and step by step through the training process.  By following these guidelines, any experienced teacher can pass on his or her skills to a new trainee.

Come Teach with Me is very flexible.  It does not dictate any particular method or style of teaching.  God has gifted His teachers differently – to use different methods, to reach different people, and to meet different needs.  These are all within His overall plan to build up the body.  The program is flexible enough to accommodate different teaching methods, different age students, different curriculums, as well as trainees with different needs.  Its lesson-planning and discipleship procedures can easily be adapted to work within virtually any type of teaching ministry.

Come Teach with Me is not designed for implementation as an official church program.  It requires no administrative infrastructure, no large gatherings, and no training sessions in teaching methodologies.  Its procedures have been built around the actions of teacher-trainers who work independently with their trainees.  They, of course, function under the authority of the church leaders.
